When we arrived and parked around by the council car park, the curb appeal was not at it's highest, not knowing the area. but the associated bar and restaurant looked inviting and sparkling clean.
We went in and were met with friendly staff. They couldn't find or booking in the diary, the owner was called, who stopped what he was doing and came to assist. (it would appear that because they don't accept Amex, my 3rd party booking didn't complete)
Staff were dispatched to make up the rooms and all was okay.
We stopped to have a quick drink while we were waiting, a very good pint of Harvey's Sussex Best was served, and enjoyed rather too quickly.
When we were shown to the rooms,we were really impressed, newly appointed, and well equipped, and spotless.
Based on the cleanliness, and great attitude shown by the staff we thought we'd try the attached restaurant. money well spent.
We were served quickly and efficiently, and the menu, was varied, modern and innovative. My two fussy daughters were spoilt for choice, and I must admit I struggled with several options, but eventually plumped for the rib in steak, and I am still thinking of it. We had a superb meal, and the staff were great throughout. I was the only one who could manage a dessert, gin and tonic cheese cake, fantastic.
This place beats the large corporate hotels into a cocked hat. My daughters have not stopped pestering to book again, and to be honest I can't wait to go back as well. If only everywhere made you feel as welcome, the world would be a better place.
This is an independent hotel, and more than makes up for lack of pool and spar with top food, and hospitality. Yes a little quirky, but the best things always are.
